The Plantronics BackBeat Fit wireless headphones + mic are designed specifically for running and other fitness activities. They are waterproof, have an 8-hour battery, and are designed to still let you hear a bit of your surroundings when listening to music. Over the last month I have tested them out while running as well as commuting on transit.

When I received the headphones, I was super excited. Some of the other BibRave Pros had already tried them out and LOVED them! I opened the box to find a note from “David,” the headphones, a charging cable, and a case which conveniently turns into an armband for your phone! Already I could tell that they took pride in their product and had really thought the design through! Here are a few reasons why they are awesome …

Safety

While I don’t generally run often with headphones, I have worn the Apple ones that came with my iPhone a handful of times. My biggest concern is not being able to hear my surroundings so I usually only listen through one ear at a time. With the BackBeat Fit, I can use both and still hear what’s going on around me.

Although they are a small, sleek headset, they have incorporated neon colours and reflective details into their design for a little extra visibility!

Comfort

It took only a short time to get used to wearing the BackBeat Fit. At first, they felt a little large in my ears, especially since I rarely wear headphones, but after my first run they felt great! They stay firmly in place and the bendy bar at the back is barely noticeable. I’ve even fallen asleep in bed wearing them while watching TV on my iPad so as not to disturb my husband with the noise.

Easy-to-use Controls

The controls on the headphones are really easy to use and quick to learn. I really like being able to use voice controls with Siri – you can ask her to play specific music or text a friend all while running! She will even read you your messages and notifications if your phone is unlocked.

Durability

I’m pretty rough on everything I own – especially running gear. I feel like the BackBeat fit are as close to indestructible as headphones can get. Everything about them is soft and bendy so you can cram them into your pack easily! I recently brought them with me for an 80 km trek through the Grand Canyon. I only had a hydration pack and space was limited. Tough decisions had to be made but still they made the cut in case I needed a music power boost!

Audio Quality

I don’t actually know much or notice audio quality ever for anything so I’m not the best to comment on this. But I will say that for my basic audio needs, the quality seems way more than adequate!

I started running about three years ago. Until this time i had never considered myself a runner and actually hated running. I'm not sure what changed but i'm glad it did! I enjoy sharing my thoughts, training, and experiences through my blog and encouraging and supporting others in their running journeys. Since becoming a runner, I have completed a handful of half marathons, three full marathons, and four ultra marathons. However, my biggest accomplishments have been running the Rim2Rim2Rim in the Grand Canyon and completing a seven-day, 250km stage race in the Alps. These were adventures of a lifetime and something I had never imagined that I would do even in my wildest dreams!
